With a background in public health, environmental sustainability, and higher education, Thomas has dedicated his career to supporting equitable frameworks for social change. He has worked across several different advocacy landscapes from child welfare to maternal health. His goal is to advance projects for humanitarian welfare and drive social impact by promoting initiatives for international policy. His professional goals lie at the intersections of biodiversity conservation and economic development. He has served as a representative of the University of California system, coordinating federal research initiatives out of the department of molecular cell biology. He has also supported international conservation initiatives to preserve terrestrial invertebrate habitats within Australia, and marine ecosystems along the coast of California and Hawaii. Before joining Spitfire, Thomas served on an advisory committee supporting projects for ecological/paleoecological data interoperability with the Neotoma Database, and volunteered for the Resilient Oceans consultancy on behalf of The Nature Conservancy. He believes in leveraging the power of collective voice to advocate for land sovereignty and the preservation of culture. Thomas has led advocacy campaigns domestically throughout California, Michigan, Florida, Hawaii, and abroad within regions of Australia.
