Katarina is a writer with a passion for politics, policy and advocacy. Her communications experience spans across press, nonprofits, journalism, research labs and creative writing. Katarina’s passion for social justice advocacy and love of writing brought her to Spitfire, where she works as an account executive specializing in communications around legislative policy and politics, combatting voting disinformation, international issues, youth well-being and reproductive rights. Previously, she worked as a press and legislative intern with Senator Jeff Merkley’s office in Washington, D.C., gaining experience with communications and helping her home state of Oregon. She honed her communications expertise in international affairs by working as a publications intern with the Council on Foreign Relations and as a political affairs intern with the Borgen Project. She also lived abroad in Bologna, Italy, where she studied European art and Italian politics and subsisted on cappuccinos and free museums. Throughout college, she worked as a research assistant in the Legislative Campaigns and Elections lab, researching and analyzing midterm election predictions and writing candidate summaries. Katarina graduated from Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a concentration in American politics and public policy, and a writing certificate. She currently lives in Washington, D.C.
