Using Drag Culture to Mobilize Gen Z Voters

Drag PAC

Drag PAC

A foundational tenet of organizing and communication is “meet people where they’re at.” This was one of the key reasons behind the creation of Drag PAC, the first-ever political action committee led by drag queens. Spitfire partnered with several former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants to launch Drag PAC to engage, educate, and mobilize Generation Z voters – the fastest growing, most racially diverse, progressive and queer voting bloc in the country – to turn out at the ballot box ahead of the most consequential election for LGBTQ+ rights and freedoms in our lifetime.

Cynicism about the political system has been a barrier for young people wanting to see positive change in their communities and the country. Drag PAC was created to get young people engaged in the democratic process by showing them the power of their vote and sprinkling glitter on the process. The founders of Drag PAC wanted to be a beacon of hope that together we can turn the tide of hate and create ripples of change across our country.

Spitfire created a focused media plan to help Drag PAC break through a crowded media environment, developed pitch materials to get journalists excited, crafted social toolkits for Drag PAC and partners, and pitched reporters and podcast producers.

For the launch of Drag PAC, we generated dozens of new stories in national and local news outlets, including USA Today, The Hill, the UPI wire service, Yahoo News, NBC Montana, CBS Austin and Fox 28 Columbus. Drag PAC also received extensive press coverage in LGBTQ media including The Advocate, LGBTQ Nation, Edge Media Networks, Them and Queerty. The Lovett or Leave It podcast featured founding Drag PAC queen Monét X Change in a podcast which was taped live in Los Angeles.
