The Sobrato Family Foundation celebrated a 20-year milestone marking the occasion and to stand up in a time that demanded action from philanthropy to stand up for, and act on their values – the Foundation had a year of important announcements, funding commitments and action. The Foundation wanted to share to show their peers steps that philanthropy can take to not only use their voice, but to use their funding and positioning to advance social issues.

The Sobrato Family Foundation collaborated with Spitfire to develop a digital annual report. We collaborated with the Foundation to identify the goals of the annual report, the target audiences they would like to connect with and identify priority content to engage those audiences. The Foundation is proud to be one of the largest local funders in Silicon Valley so a key strategy of the report was to showcase giving local and the positive impact giv­ing at home can have. Sobrato also invests in nonprofits as a critical sector for a community to thrive, equipping nonprofits with training and grant support that allows them focus on their mission and build skills in-house to evaluate and increase their effectiveness as an orga­nization.

We gathered and streamlined the various pro­gram streams to tell the cohesive story of “Strengthening Nonprofits.” Understanding the funder audiences, we pulled the impacts out as a separate sections and ani­mated the data to bring the impact of their programs to life in the digital report. The resulting digital annual report displays the most compelling elements of the Sobrato Family Foundation’s work that year in a succinct, visual way to illustrate successful models to peer funders.
